ELECTRICITY GENERATION |
|
We
deliver clear and precise forecasts that help you to plan your daily
activities with confidence, and to minimise the impact of the weather
on your operations.
The
energy industry is another business segment which is extremely
sensitive to the weather. We
send forecasts for the next 6 days by email by 9am each day.
The forecast
includes:
- Weather
- Minimum
temperature
- Maximum
temperature
- Wind speed and
direction every 3 hours
- Rain probability
- Thunderstorm
probability
- Relative Humidity
- Cloud Cover
- Rain amount every
3 hours
- Next 24-hour
warning

ELECTRICITY TRANSMISSION
AND DISTRIBUTION |
|
The
transmission of electricity entails the movement of power via high
voltage networks from the generators across the Maltese Islands.
Electricity distribution takes power from the transmission network and
delivers it to the consumer via a host of local lower voltage
networks.
Both
sets of networks are affected by the weather, and those taking
services from us are able to benefit by:
- Anticipating
damage to networks
- Placing resources
on standby for speedy consumer reconnection
- Improving
reconnection rates, avoiding costly financial penalties
- Being able to
predict and deal with poor loading and routeing issues
- Ensuring that
local demand can be met - the amount of current a cable can carry is
affected by its temperature

14-DAY WEATHER FORECASTS |
|
Our 14-day weather forecast
is sent by email 3 times a week. This
weather forecast includes weather
description and weather icon, wind direction
and force, rainfall and thunderstorm probabilities, maximum and
minimum temperatures, cloud cover, relative
humidity and sea conditions. |
|
9-MONTH WEATHER FORECASTS |
|
Our 9-month weather forecast
is sent by email once a
month, normally towards the middle of the month. It includes a general
month-by-month weather forecast, including temperatures and rainfall. |
|
GENERAL MONTHLY SUMMARY |
|
The
General Monthly Summary (GMS) is a record of weather data, giving
daily values, means and averages for a range of weather elements.
The GMS 'weather log' helps farmers and other agriculturists to assess
how the weather may have affected their business and specific
activities like planting, spraying, irrigation and harvest.
The weather elements covered include:
- Temperature,
maximum and minimum
- Rainfall
- Wind, average and
maximum gust
- Humidity
- Significant
weather - days when thunderstorms, hail, fog and gales were reported

RENEWABLE ENERGY |
|
As
the world's reserves of coal, oil, and gas begin to disappear, and
with the drive to reduce emissions, energy markets worldwide are
looking to renewable sources of power to fill the gaps.
Renewable energy is
derived from a number of sources, all of which are very long lasting,
if not inexhaustible. In the Maltese Islands the major sources are:
- wind (both on- and
off-shore);
- sun (powering
solar and photovoltaic generation);
- rainfall (driving
hydro generation);
- the sea (providing
generation through tidal and wave action);
- biomass (using
easily replenished energy crops or waste products).
These
sources are more than just affected by the weather - in many cases
they are the weather.
For
wind farms, we not only help to forecast energy output, but can also
help understand where to build and position assets for maximum effect.
Our services can help reduce risks inherent in the planning,
construction and operational phases of such projects.
Phone calls to our
premium number 52402020 cost €2.00. |
