SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WITH WATERSPOUT – 15th September 2010

A low pressure system moving southerly from Italy caused lots of instability especially in the morning with a waterspout observed moving NNE-SSW from the Gozo Channel to Golden Bay for about 10-15 minutes at around 10.30am during a thunderstorm that produced 55.8mm over Mellieha, 30.6mm over Qawra and 17.3mm over Mgarr Malta. Hail was also observed at Xemxija, Mgarr Malta and Wardija, where some rubble walls also collapsed. No other damage was reported. Warning was issued.
